DC
In an amazing bit of lucky timing, I'm going to be at a parks conference next week, just after the blooming of the cherry blossoms. Here are some great pictures. So looking forward to seeing that! I'll do a little travel blogging while I'm there, too.
I made $100 in my sleep last night …
Without a doubt, the most incredible part about having my books on the Kindle is that people are reading them. They’re reading what I wrote! It’s a wonderful and awesome thing to have real readers, and I can’t overstate how exciting and gratifying that part of this experiment has been. But the second most incredible part about having books on the Kindle is that I have these little engines out there making money for me while I do other stuff. Maybe not a lot of money, but some. Which is great. I’ll be working, or reading, or sleeping, and when I Read more…
Hmm
This blog has been hosted by Posterous for the last 2 to 3 years. It's been a really great platform in all that time. Interestingly, Posterous was just sold to Twitter. Will be interesting to see what happens next! Maybe my posts will get really short. 🙂
Tacoma Titans
The Tacoma Titans are a great success story. They're raising money to go to Colorado Springs at the end of the month to play in the national championships for Wheelchair Basketball. There's a great story about them in today's Tribune. Metro Parks has supported the Titans as part of our adaptive rec program. That rec program, which also includes archery, rowing, and acquatics, is one of our real highlights.
SSTC
The South Sound Technology Conference was a real success (Tribune article about it here). More than 250 people came and packed UWT. Andrew Fry and the staff at the Institute of Technology have done a great job with the event. I've been volunteering for the last few years on the steering committee. When I started it was a free event. Interestingly, it never got that as many people as when we decided to start charging for it ($20 for the day, which also gets you lunch). There were some good panels, breakout sessions, and of course the keynote–Howard Schmidt, cyber security Read more…
The Marinara Murders and The Saints Go Dying … now in paperback!
I'm happy to say that both The Marinara Murders and The Saints Go Dying are now available from Amazon.com in paperback. They're both $9.99. Even at that price I make less per sale than I do on the Kindle versions of the book (which is kind of crazy when you realize that the Kindle versions about a 1/3 of the cost.) But I just couldn't justify pricing them above $10. So $9.99 it is! At least two independent bookstores have offered to carry the books, so soon they will be available locally. But until then, if you don't want to read Read more…
Vashon Day
We spent today on Vashon, checking out beaches, lighthouses, and their cute little shopping area. Mostly it’s just a nice half-day trip. I got some good photos, which Instagram’s filters made a little better. Lighthouse at Point Robinson Park Dramatic cloud cover with a sun break on the beach Shelter on the beach The KIRO AM transmitter (love the old type) Always a classic. The treed bicycle.
