States Divided With Even Population

via pheedcontent.com I saw this map on James Fallows blog a few days ago but it keeps getting reposted elsewhere. It’s pretty interesting, really. The idea is to divide the US into 50 states, keeping population even between the states and trying to preserve boundaries where possible (Note that Missouri looks pretty much the same, and so does Washington). It's not too often that I go five days without a blog post. But I've been under a rock. A big project has swamped me with Mary Holste Design, with some 12 hours days this weekend. City Club has our first lunch meeting today at our new venue–Tacoma Art Museum, which I'm very excited about. Our speaker for lunch is UW President Mark Emmert. Three movies

It's ComplicatedMeryl Streep is always fun to watch, and both Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin are good too. This movie is light-years better than The Holiday was. But Nancy Meyers is a very uneven writer. Some of the scenes just sing, and others feel pointless. Some characters even feel pointless. Still, when it's on, it's pretty good. Young VictoriaI was disappointed by this movie. It did make me want to read a biography of Victoria, but the movie itself didn't strike me much. Not sure about 104.5 KMCQ

Last summer I discovered that KMCQ at 104.5 is a fairly good station for Oldies. Their playlist is a little narrower than KBSG used to be, but it's the only station in the area where you can hear some of the pop songs from the 50s and 60s. But the station seems like it's just run out of some guy's house or something. A few times I'll find dead air when I flip past it, sometimes for 12 hours or more on end.
