The Big Apple

Mary and I love New York, and it's been great to be here for the weekend. Mostly our activities have consisted of walking around and looking at buildings. After feeling sick for what feels like most of February, a couple days of walking sounded like the best thing in the world. I've visited two new parks while I've been here. Prospect Park, in Brooklyn, and the High Line, which opened in 2009. The High Line is unique: an abandoned elevated railway that was turned into a long promenade over the city. It’s Friday I’m in Love!

You see, it was all building to that headline. 🙂 Anyway. It's been an interesting week. Quite good, really, despite a lot of different things pulling on me this week. One especially cool thing to report: I'm writing a long article for the Carleton Voice, the alumni magazine about my alma mater. If you want a good example of the truism "it takes 3 years for a business to make money," this is a perfect example. Be the Spark! Youth Against Violence Project at City Club next Wednesday

I want to encourage you to come to next week's City Club lunch on March 16. It will feature three youth speakers who are involved in the Youth Philanthropy Board and the Youth Against Violence initiative sponsored by the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation. I've been a volunteer with GTCF for three years now and I really love their work. And I was the facilitator for a recent retreat of the Youth Philanthropy Board and was just blown away by the work they are doing.
