Think of other things you could be doing with your time spent on Facebook. If you find yourself spending, say, 10 hours a week on Facebook, make a list of all the other things you could accomplish in that time. You could:
- pick up a part time job and invest that money in stocks
- teach a child how to throw a football
- get fit
- build a gas scooter or an adobe wall
- calculate the center of gravity
- volunteer
- Read a book
- teach yourself a new language
- make a papasan chair cushion

I just read Virginia Heffernan’s article about people leaving Facebook. Unlike her interesting “Let Them Eat Tweets” article earlier this year, this one didn’t really go anywhere.
But it did link to a “Wikihow” page that had a list of things you could be doing with the time you spend on Facebook. I think my favorite option is calculating the center of gravity, but building an adobe wall is a close second.
Funny you should mention that article: http://gawker.com/5349654/how-one-journalist-killed-facebook
