Less Reader, more Twitter

I’ve noticed that I spend less and less time in Google Reader. I made sure to hit some of my favorite feeds and political bloggers, the comics that come in via RSS, a couple tech blogs, and whichever of my friends has posted something recently. But generally I’m most of my inbound interesting links from Twitter these days. Reader has been pretty great for archiving though. I often search for a phrase or a name and find out what people I follow have written about it. It makes for a pretty powerful “personal library.” Anyone else find they’re seeing more Read more…

Email ‘n Walk at the same time …

Screenshot by Peter MayEmail ‘n Walk Sometimes an iPhone app comes along that seems crazy, but turns out to have redeeming values. This is just such a case. Email ‘n Walk does something amazing. Using your iPhone’s camera, it displays a live view of the world in front of you above a virtual keyboard. Long day on the road

So yesterday, we left South Lake Tahoe at 9:45 am. And we drove. And we drove. And we drove. And at 11:15 pm, we arrived at home! According to Google, it was a 774-mile day. Our route took us along the east side of the lake, through Reno, and then into the Lassen National Forest, which was most definitely a highlight and a beautiful route. We’ll be on the road all day Thursday and a few hours on Friday Read more…

via theatlantic.com The Atlantic’s article about renewable energy in California is pretty good. This fact especially I thought was interesting: “At the time of the 1973 oil shock, California used about 17 percent less electricity per person than the country at large. Since then, as Rosenfeld likes to point out in a chart that has been dubbed β€œthe Rosenfeld Curve,” per capita electricity use in the nation has increased by about 50 percent to about 12,000 kilowatt-hours annually. Meanwhile, over that same period, per capita electricity use in California has remained absolutely flat at about 7,000 kilowatt-hours per year. That Read more…
